What can your firm accomplish with a platform people already know?

When Steptoe & Johnson needed to launch an urgent firmwide process, the firm adapted UniversitySite instead of introducing another application. Employees used a platform they already knew, while authorized managers gained the visibility they needed.

THE CHALLENGE

An urgent requirement emerged with no established process behind it.

As Steptoe & Johnson prepared employees to return to its offices, the firm needed a reliable way to distribute a daily health self-assessment, collect responses, and give selected managers enough visibility to address concerns.

The process had to reach employees quickly, work across offices, preserve appropriate confidentiality, and avoid creating a manual administrative burden.

THE DECISION

Build something new—or adapt a platform already in place?

Steptoe & Johnson already had a firmwide platform employees understood and could access from their computers and mobile devices.

Rather than researching, purchasing, and introducing another system, the firm used UniversitySite to support the new process.

That reduced the amount of change employees had to absorb at a moment when speed and clarity mattered.

THE APPROACH

Put the new requirement inside a familiar experience.

The firm published the assessment through UniversitySite and distributed a link employees could use each day, including from mobile devices.

Access to detailed responses was limited to selected members of management, allowing office leaders to act on relevant information without broadly exposing sensitive results.

  • A familiar experience employees could use without retraining
  • Mobile access so daily completion did not depend on office location
  • Central oversight for authorized managers responsible for follow-up
  • Controlled visibility into responses to protect sensitive information
  • A consistent process across offices using one established workflow
  • No separate application for employees to learn during a high-change period

THE RESULT

A rapid response without another system to buy, build, or administer.

Because UniversitySite was already deployed and familiar, Steptoe & Johnson could establish the process without introducing an entirely new platform.

The firm avoided manual result tracking, avoided creating or purchasing a separate system, and gave employees a straightforward way to complete the requirement.

The original case study also indicates that employees showed little resistance to the process.

The lesson extends beyond the original use case: adaptable technology can help firms respond to unexpected operational needs without adding another disconnected system.

WHY UNIVERSITYSITE

A flexible platform keeps solving new problems.

Steptoe & Johnson used UniversitySite primarily for learning, but the platform's assignment, communication, mobile access, response collection, reporting, and permission controls also supported a time-sensitive operational process.

That flexibility gave the firm another option when circumstances changed: use an established platform, adapt it to the new requirement, and avoid burdening employees with another destination.

Could the platform your firm already has support more than it does today?
